Finding Her Voice: Andrea “Andy” Amurau’s Journey in the Certified Voice Artist Program

Andrea “Andy” Amurau’s Journey in the Certified Voice Artist Program

Dreams often begin in childhood, but the path toward achieving them is not always clear. For Andrea Jeanette Amurau, fondly known as Andy in the CVAP community and recognized as the “Captive Voice,” the journey to becoming a voice artist was filled with uncertainty, rediscovery, and ultimately, opportunity.

Andy is currently a college student who experienced most of her academic life through online classes. Like many young people, she found herself questioning what direction she truly wanted to take in life. Although she had always dreamed of becoming a voice artist since elementary school, the pressures of choosing a career path and deciding on a college course made her unsure if that childhood dream could ever become a reality.

At one point, Andy even considered shifting to a Mass Communication course in order to pursue her long-time aspiration related to media and voice work. However, after reflecting on her situation, she eventually decided to shift to a different academic path. Even with that decision, one thing remained constant—her desire to become a voice artist never disappeared.

While searching online for opportunities related to voice acting, Andy discovered the Certified Voice Artist Program through Facebook. The program immediately caught her interest because it offered training for aspiring voice artists who wanted to develop their skills and explore their creative potential. However, the cost of the program initially discouraged her, and she thought that her dream might remain just that—a dream.

Then something unexpected happened.

Through the connections she had built online, someone very close to her heart decided to enroll her as a scholar in the program, even without fully knowing about her aspiration to become a voice artist. For Andy, this moment felt like a dream come true. What once seemed impossible suddenly became an opportunity she could finally pursue.

When she began the training, Andy quickly realized that the experience was far beyond what she had imagined. Unlike traditional voice training programs that take place in physical classrooms, the sessions were conducted entirely online. Yet despite the virtual setup, the program was vibrant, engaging, and full of energy.

During her first sessions, Andy experienced what she described as a “culture shock.” The hosts were lively and enthusiastic, creating a welcoming environment that made participants feel comfortable right away. The trainers, hosts, and secretariat team did not simply focus on technical instruction. Instead, they encouraged participants to interact with each other, build connections, and feel like part of a community.

The program was led by the mentorship and inspiration of Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, whose motivational reflections—often called “Pochologies”—became a source of encouragement for many participants. These words of wisdom helped inspire Andy and her fellow trainees to keep pushing forward despite challenges.

Another major part of the program was the series of assignments given after each session. There were many tasks to complete, which meant participants needed strong time management skills and discipline. For Andy, who admitted that she sometimes struggled with procrastination, this was a significant challenge. However, she eventually realized that these assignments were not just requirements—they were an essential part of the learning process.

Through these tasks, Andy learned that voice artistry involves much more than simply speaking into a microphone. Participants were trained to develop multiple creative skills, including scriptwriting, audio editing, video editing, and performance techniques. At the same time, the program helped them overcome shyness and build the confidence needed to showcase their talents.

Even though Andy started the program without prior experience in voice acting, she discovered that CVAP welcomed people from all walks of life. Students, professionals, people with disabilities, and even individuals who were unemployed were all encouraged to participate. What united them was a shared goal—to improve their voices and grow as aspiring voice artists.

For Andy, the experience became more than just training. It became a journey of self-discovery. Through the guidance of mentors and the support of fellow participants, she gained new skills, built confidence, and unlocked creativity she never knew she had.

Looking back on her journey, Andy expressed deep gratitude to the CVAP family for the opportunity and the meaningful experiences she gained throughout the program. What once felt like an unreachable dream eventually became a reality—one made possible through support, determination, and the courage to pursue a passion.

Today, Andrea “Andy” Amurau proudly carries the title of “Captive Voice” in the CVAP community, reminding aspiring voice artists that sometimes the path to your dream begins with a single opportunity and the willingness to embrace it.
