THEN AND NOW: The paced development of Voice Acting Artistry

In every field of art is a person trying to make a name in their respective industry- and that includes voice acting or dubbing. It is considered as one of the longest running artforms; however, it was not noticed by the public until recently. Due to most of the work happening behind a screen it is quite easy to overlook the artistry going on behind the scenes; this is why Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” De Leon Gonzales https://web.facebook.com/PocholoGonzales , the most popular voice artist in the Philippines, have spent the past few years reviving and reintroducing the art of voice acting. He views voice acting not only as a profession, but also as an artistry and a passion.

For Pocholo, https://web.facebook.com/PocholoGonzales "voice acting is a way of life”. Voice acting is everywhere- in television, radio, games, commercials and even on online platforms. However, even though it is a part of our daily lives, since it is not visible to the audience some people tend to overlook it.

Realizing his true calling and passion in life, Pocholohttps://web.facebook.com/PocholoGonzales decided to build his own voice acting company- one that focuses on the artistry and passion of the field. Through his dedication and willingness to promote voice acting, and eagerness to help other aspiring voice artists build a name for themselves, CreatiVoices Productions and Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP) was founded.

The goal is to empower the everyobe through their voices and to produce certified voice artists who share the same passion and determination as him, and not someone who uses their talent solely for profit.

He discussed revolutionizing and democratizing the world of voice acting; he elaborated about how he meant to "create a new system, new culture, and new framework”. Like any other field, the artistry of voice acting has also gone through its own trials before reaching where they are today. Pocholohttps://web.facebook.com/PocholoGonzales has also experienced the struggle of monopoly and politics at a young age. Through his dedication to change the dynastical system of the world of voice acting, he built companies and organizations that support the art from the ground up. And although the beginning proved to be a rough and bumpy road, through his dedication to pursue change within the industry he loved so much, he persevered through all the adversities thrown his way. Like a diamond formed through heat and pressure, Pocholo was shaped to become the man that he is today.

At this point you might already be wondering, “why refer to it as the ‘Voice Acting Artistry’ and not industry?”. The answer to that is simple, because when it comes to voice acting “there is NO industry, but there is an artistry”. Pocholo also elaborated that he never claimed he built the “voice acting industry”, but instead it was the “voice acting artistry”.

For him an industry is more focused on talents with profit; while artistry focuses on the passion and skills that a person has. According to him, in the "voice acting industry” opportunities are only given to people with experience, those who are already known and with a name; however, when it comes to the “voice acting artistry” opportunities are open for all as he believed that everyone is an artist. Everyone will be given an opportunity to show their skills and ability with conjunction of improvement.

Before the pandemic struck, voice acting and dubbing takes place inside the studio; but as adherence to COVID protocols as well as consideration for their employees, Pocholo and his team provided a production process that operates via an online platform.

CVAP https://web.facebook.com/CertifiedVoiceArtist/photos/?ref=page_internal continuously helps people achieve their dreams as well as to produce more skilled voice actors. In CVAP, workshops and training sessions take place online, which nowadays is considered as an advantage. This also allows for low-cost production, but at the same time still produces excellent quality voice acting and dubbing.

In the present, Pocholo's voice acting artistry has significantly grown, and will continue to grow in the future. He said that no matter what hardships are thrown at him, he will continue to push forward and believe in himself and reach his goals. Pocholo believes that like a flag being pulled, he would only continue to rise towards the top.
