The Filipino Voice That Echoed Beyond Generations

For more than three decades, one name has continuously resonated in the world of Philippine voice acting, broadcasting, youth empowerment, and now Artificial Intelligence innovation... Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, more popularly known as The VoiceMaster.

From humble beginnings as a young boy listening to radio dramas without a television at home, to becoming one of the pioneers of Filipino AI voice technology recognized around the world, Pocholo’s journey is not merely a story of success. It is a story of purpose, identity, nationalism, creativity, and the power of the human voice.

As he shared during his interview in Montreal, Canada, the voice is not simply a talent... it is a gift. And according to him:

“Our voice is a gift from God... and how we use it is our gift back to God.”

That philosophy became the foundation of what many now call Pochology... a unique life philosophy centered on self-expression, greatness, storytelling, service, gratitude, and empowering Filipinos to discover and love their own voice.

The Boy Who Learned from Radio

Long before becoming “The VoiceMaster,” Pocholo was simply a child fascinated by sound.

Growing up without television, radio became his world. He listened obsessively to classic Filipino radio dramas, cartoons, and character voices. Without realizing it, he was already training his imagination and vocal range as early as five years old.

He mimicked cartoon characters, practiced voices for fun, and eventually discovered that voice acting was more than imitation... it was transformation.

At age 16, he won a voice acting competition on ABS-CBN DZMM, earning his first radio show and eventually entering the world of dubbing and broadcasting.

From there, his voice became part of Filipino pop culture.

The Art of Becoming

Unlike many actors who focus on performance, Pocholo developed his own philosophy about voice acting.

For him, acting is not pretending.

It is becoming.

“Voice acting is the art of becoming.”

He believes a voice actor should not merely imitate emotions, but embody the soul of the character itself. This approach transformed his work as a dubber, voice director, broadcaster, and mentor.

Over the years, he became involved in hundreds of commercials, educational shows, anime series, radio dramas, and animated productions. He later became known for directing and producing Filipino dubbing for globally recognized anime titles such as:

  • Kaiju No. 8
  • My Hero Academia
  • Solo Leveling
  • Dr. Stone

He also became deeply involved in localization and dubbing direction through CreatiVoices Productions, the pioneering voice-over and dubbing company he founded in 2005.

CreatiVoices would eventually become one of the most recognized voice production companies in the Philippines, helping train thousands of aspiring voice artists while also providing dubbing, broadcasting, and voice solutions for local and international clients.

The Birth of the VoiceMaster

As the demand for professional voice acting grew, Pocholo noticed a serious gap in the industry.

There was no formal institution dedicated to training Filipino voice artists.

So instead of waiting for someone else to build it... he built it himself.

He founded the Certified Voice Artists Philippines and later launched the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP), which has since trained over 20,000 students, broadcasters, teachers, entrepreneurs, and aspiring voice artists.

His mission was simple yet revolutionary:

Every Filipino has greatness in their voice.

This philosophy extended beyond entertainment. For Pocholo, voice is connected to identity, confidence, leadership, and nation-building.

The Historian and Storyteller

Many know Pocholo as a voice artist.

Few realize he is also a historian, author, and cultural advocate.

During the interview, he explained his deep fascination with Jose Rizal and how Rizal’s writings shaped Filipino identity itself.

According to Pocholo, before Rizal, the term “Filipino” originally referred only to Spaniards born in the Philippines. Rizal redefined the identity of the Filipino people and reclaimed it for the natives of the archipelago.

This realization inspired one of his most ambitious projects:

“Conversations with Rizal”

Using AI voice synthesis and storytelling, Pocholo recreated the voice and perspective of Dr. Jose Rizal in first-person narration.

Instead of hearing:

“Jose Rizal was born in Calamba...”

audiences now hear:

“Ako ay ipinanganak sa Calamba, Laguna...”

This groundbreaking approach transformed history into an immersive storytelling experience.

It also demonstrated how AI, when used ethically and creatively, can preserve culture rather than erase it.

The Rise of the AI VoiceMaster

While many artists feared Artificial Intelligence, Pocholo embraced it.

He recognized early that AI would inevitably reshape media, communication, dubbing, and education. Instead of resisting change, he positioned himself at the forefront of Filipino AI voice development.

He noticed a major problem:

Most AI voices did not sound authentically Filipino.

The pronunciation felt unnatural. The rhythm lacked cultural identity. Filipino languages were underrepresented.

So he began building localized AI voice datasets for:

  • Tagalog
  • Cebuano
  • Bicolano
  • Filipino-accented English

He partnered with global AI companies such as:

In the interview, he explained how he helped create Filipino AI voices for modern AI systems and video generation platforms.

His goal was not simply technological innovation.

His goal was representation.

“Binigyan ko ng boses ang mga Filipino.”

Voice of the Youth

Long before AI became mainstream, Pocholo was already empowering the next generation.

At just sixteen years old, he founded Voice of the Youth Network, a youth-oriented advocacy organization focused on leadership, media, communication, and nation-building.

Through seminars, workshops, radio programs, and educational campaigns, he continuously encouraged Filipino youth to:

  • Believe in themselves
  • Speak with confidence
  • Use media responsibly
  • Create positive social change

This advocacy eventually expanded into AI literacy, ethical AI use, and digital empowerment through initiatives like:

  • AI Education PH
  • AI Negosyo
  • AI MasterMind Network
  • Balitang AI
  • AI Talks with the VoiceMaster

The Filipino Identity Beyond Borders

One of the strongest themes in Pocholo’s life work is nationalism.

Even while traveling internationally, he consistently promotes Filipino language, culture, creativity, and excellence.

During the interview in Canada, he reflected on the meaning of being Filipino:

“Ang pagiging Pilipino wala yan sa lugar kundi nasa kultura, nasa lenggwahe, nasa pagkatao.”

For him, Filipino identity is not defined by geography.

It is defined by culture, language, humanity, and storytelling.

That is why many of his projects focus not only on entertainment, but on preserving Filipino identity in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

More Than a Voice

Today, Pocholo De Leon Gonzales stands as one of the most influential figures in the Philippine voice industry.

But beyond titles, awards, and recognition, his greatest legacy may be this:

He taught Filipinos that their voice matters.

Not just as performers...

But as human beings.

From radio dramas to AI voices...
from dubbing studios to global conferences...
from storytelling to nation-building...

The VoiceMaster continues to prove that technology may evolve, but the human voice will always remain at the center of inspiration, identity, and transformation.

And perhaps that is the true essence of Pochology:

To discover your voice...
to love your voice...
and to use it to make the world better.
