Day 2 Certified Voice Artist Program Experience
September 11, 2021 - Saturday
This day was very informative and nerve-wrecking. It was informative because we learned about Voice Variety, Character Voices, Voice Care, and Knowing Your Niche.
Voice Variety has 3 main elements that all contribute to the believability or emotion portrayed by your voice. You also need to remember that it is not about WHAT you say but HOW you say it.
Pitch: level of voice tone
Volume: how loud or soft your voice is
Tempo: how fast or slow you speak
Character Voice has 6 main elements in order to copy and create different voice of characters as you speak:
Pitch
Pitch Character: Color or personality of your pitch
Tempo
Rhythm: “vocal thumbprint” or it is to understand how someone’s voice sounds regardless if they switch language or emotion.
Placement: pertains to the source of your voice
Mouth Work: how the shape of your mouth determines your voice
We were given 10 tips for Voice Care:
Drink plenty of water
Avoid bad food such as sugar or caffeine
Rest your voice for 15 minutes per hour of you speaking
Practice Proper Posture
Practice Proper Breathing
Don't shout or whisper
Warm-up before doing a voice over
Salt water gargle using rock salt
Avoid pollutants such as dust, pollen, smoke, etc.
Consult your doctor if cough or sore throat persists
In knowing your niche, you need to answer some questions and persevere to keep volunteering for opportunities to gain experience and help your community. Ask yourself the following questions:
What voice do you have?
What characters can you do?
What are your previous projects?
What projects do you enjoy doing?
What kind of project do you want to study?
I have a raspy, airy, and nasal-sounding voice. I can do voices for kids in their adolescent years, teenagers, fairies, and a working adult. My previous projects are on acting as a commentator during mass, hosting events, and voicing announcements in school. I enjoy hosting, as this makes use of my natural voice. I would love to learn more about commercials and radio announcements.
We then ended with a short presentation to help us practice our character voices while getting to know each other's experience. Feel free to type down your answer to these questions below. See you in next week’s blog !!
