Exploring the World of Voice Acting: Andrea’s Experience in the Certified Voice Artist Program

Andrea’s Experience in the Certified Voice Artist Program

For anyone curious about voice acting, taking the first step can often feel overwhelming. Andrea, a recent participant of the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP), shared her reflections after completing the four-day workshop, revealing how it provided not just knowledge, but also community, guidance, and inspiration for aspiring voice artists.

Andrea describes the program as a comprehensive “sampler” of what it takes to become a voice artist. The workshop spans four days, culminating in a graduation and recital, giving participants a hands-on overview of the skills and insights needed to enter the industry. Each day of the program focuses on different facets of voice artistry:

  • Day 1: Understanding what it means to be a voice artist, developing a personal brand, and embracing one’s unique voice.
  • Day 2: Technical skills, including editing, equipment essentials, and acting techniques such as pitch control and voice modulation.
  • Day 3: Voice care and specialized techniques like dubbing, adding a fun and practical dimension to learning.
  • Day 4: Creating a professional reel, approaching clients, and learning industry best practices.

Andrea appreciated the breadth of expertise offered through the program. Mentors and speakers came from various areas of voice acting—from dubbing to commercial work to character performance—giving participants a clear view of the wide range of opportunities available in the industry. This exposure allowed her to see the multiple paths she could pursue as a voice artist, whether as a hobby or a professional career.

Another highlight of her experience was the supportive learning environment. Andrea, who describes herself as introverted, initially worried about the group dynamics. However, being assigned a VR (Virtual Room) and having peers she could message for guidance made the experience less intimidating and more collaborative. She valued the mentors’ and peers’ willingness to provide feedback, resources, and encouragement throughout the workshop.

What surprised Andrea most was the sense of community she discovered in the program. Beyond technical instruction, CVAP offered a network of like-minded individuals who shared a passion for voice artistry. The organization, SIVA, and its mentors were committed not only to teaching but also to fostering a nurturing and inspiring environment for every participant.

Andrea concludes that CVAP is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in voice acting, whether as a career or a side pursuit. The program equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to explore opportunities, while also providing a supportive community to lean on. Even for those who are uncertain about pursuing voice acting long-term, the program offers a strong foundation and a memorable, enriching experience.

For Andrea, completing the Certified Voice Artist Program wasn’t just about learning—it was about discovering what it means to be a voice artist, connecting with a community, and gaining the tools to shape her own journey in the world of voice acting.
