Chris’ Journey with the Certified Voice Artist Program
For many aspiring voice actors, the dream often begins with curiosity and passion but finding the right opportunity to develop that passion can be difficult. This was exactly the experience of Chris, whose path to voice acting started years before he ever joined the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP).
His journey is a story of persistence, rediscovery, and how the right program can help transform passion into direction.
A Dream That Started in Cebu
Chris first became interested in voice acting back in 2016 while living in Cebu. Like many beginners, he began searching for ways to improve his chances in the industry. He looked online for voice acting classes, hoping to find a training program that could guide him.
Unfortunately, there were no available classes in Cebu at the time.
During his search, Chris discovered CreatiVoices Productions, a Manila-based training institution known for voice acting workshops. The program looked exactly like what he wanted—training, mentorship, and the chance to see a real recording studio.
But there was one problem: attending the workshop required traveling to Manila and paying a significant fee. At that point in his life, it simply wasn’t possible.
With no accessible classes available, Chris decided to continue learning on his own.
Gaining Experience on His Own
Instead of giving up on voice acting completely, Chris kept pursuing opportunities independently. He auditioned for various projects online and slowly built experience in the field.
One of his biggest early achievements was landing a role in the video game Infinite Adventures, where he voiced the character Mordecai the Humble. Although the role was unpaid, it was a milestone for Chris. Few people can say that their voice appears in a video game, and for him, the experience itself was incredibly rewarding.
However, life soon required him to shift his focus. As he entered senior high school and prepared for college, voice acting took a back seat. Auditions took time, and without financial returns, it became difficult to prioritize.
For a while, the dream faded into the background.
A Second Chance
Years later, Chris found himself with more free time—and someone who believed in his passion. His girlfriend, Fatima, knew how much he enjoyed voice acting and wanted to help him pursue it again.
She reached out to a mutual friend who happened to be a CVAP alumnus and asked for recommendations on how Chris could improve his voice acting and voice-over skills.
The answer was simple: CVAP.
Thanks to her support and encouragement, Chris finally enrolled in the program. For him, it felt like completing a journey that had begun years earlier.
Lessons from the CVAP Experience
After joining the program, Chris discovered that CVAP provided exactly what many aspiring voice artists need—especially beginners in the industry.
According to him, the program focuses on three essential areas: self-promotion, mindset, and audio quality.
1. Self-Branding and Promotion
One of the first lessons students learn in CVAP is the importance of building a personal brand. Participants are encouraged to create platforms such as YouTube channels, SoundCloud accounts, blogs, and social media pages dedicated to their voice work.
At first, Chris found the idea unusual. Why create a special name for a voice brand?
But eventually, he embraced the concept and created his own identity: “Vox Americano.”
This branding approach helped him understand a key principle in the voice-over industry—having a demo reel and a professional online presence makes it easier for potential clients to discover your work.
It also helped build confidence as he watched his content grow and reach audiences.
2. Developing the Right Mindset
Another important takeaway from CVAP was learning how to handle rejection.
The voice acting industry is extremely competitive, and rejection is common. Without the right mindset, many aspiring artists become discouraged and quit.
Chris realized that the program prepares students for this reality. Instead of fearing rejection, they learn to see it as part of the process.
As long as the passion remains, improvement will follow.
3. The Importance of Audio Quality
Chris also emphasized how critical good audio quality is when auditioning for projects. Many beginners submit auditions using poor recording equipment, which immediately lowers their chances of being selected.
Fortunately, during his batch, CVAP offered a microphone discount that allowed students to purchase professional equipment at a lower cost.
With proper gear and guidance, students can produce recordings that meet industry standards—giving them a much stronger start in their voice acting journey.
The Power of Community
For Chris, perhaps the most meaningful part of CVAP was not just the lessons, but the community.
Before joining the program, he rarely met others who shared his passion for voice acting. Living in Cebu, he felt isolated from the industry and uncertain about whether pursuing voice acting seriously was even possible.
Through CVAP, he became part of a network of aspiring and professional voice artists across the Philippines. Members share audition opportunities, support each other’s work, and help one another grow.
That sense of belonging reignited Chris’s motivation to continue pursuing voice acting.
Is CVAP Worth It?
After completing the program, Chris confidently answers the question he asked at the beginning of his testimonial:
Yes—CVAP is worth it.
For beginners, it provides a structured and supportive introduction to the voice-over industry. Students learn essential technical skills, develop a professional mindset, and build their personal brand.
Even for those who already have experience, the program offers something equally valuable: a community of passionate voice artists who motivate and support each other.
For Chris, joining CVAP didn’t just improve his skills—it helped him rediscover the dream he started pursuing years ago in Cebu.
And this time, he plans to keep going.
