The Story of the First CVAP Voicemates
In the middle of a challenging time brought by the global pandemic, a new opportunity emerged for aspiring voice artists across the Philippines. For four weeks, more than 80 passionate participants—known as “voicemates”—joined one of the most intensive online voice acting workshops in the country: the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP).
Guided by the mentorship of the Voice Master himself, Pocholo De Leon Gonzalez, the program brought together individuals from different backgrounds who shared one common dream—to discover the power of their voice and use it to inspire others.
Rekindling a Forgotten Passion
For many participants, CVAP became a chance to rediscover passions that had long been set aside. Alvin Balce, one of the enrollees from the pioneering batch, shared that his love for voice acting had faded when he started working. However, when the pandemic forced many people to work from home, he found himself with extra time to reconnect with his passion.
Through CVAP, Alvin gained valuable knowledge and experience that helped him see the voice acting industry from a new perspective. For him, the program filled something that had long been missing in his life—purpose and fulfillment.
A Community of Like-Minded Dreamers
Another participant, Angeline Rodriguez, also known as “Voice Ganda,” shared that one of the most meaningful parts of the program was meeting people who shared the same passion for voice artistry.
CVAP introduced her to individuals who were eager to learn, grow, and support each other’s goals. Through the program, she gained confidence, built friendships, and realized that even while staying at home during the pandemic, she could still pursue her dreams.
For many voicemates, the program created a strong sense of community—something that extended beyond learning technical skills.
Building Confidence Through Voice
Several participants described CVAP as a life-changing experience that helped them overcome personal doubts.
For Clifford Ray Gonzalez, the program offered more than technical training. It provided personal interaction with mentors and fellow students, creating an environment where everyone could learn together and support one another.
Meanwhile, Jenny (voice artist) shared that before joining CVAP, many people in her life had no idea that she dreamed of becoming a voice artist. At one point, she even felt lost about her direction in life. Discovering CVAP through social media gave her the courage to finally pursue that hidden dream.
Similarly, Myra (Pima Voice) admitted that she once hesitated to introduce herself as a voice artist despite knowing she had potential. But after participating in the program, her confidence grew and she felt ready to share her voice with the world.
Learning Beyond Technical Skills
While voice acting techniques were an important part of the training, many participants emphasized that the program taught far more than just technical skills.
According to Jeff Perey, voice acting should not simply be seen as a way to earn income. Instead, it is an art form that should be practiced with purpose, passion, and a mission to inspire others.
The program also encouraged participants to step out of their comfort zones. Through various assignments, performances, and collaborative activities, voicemates were challenged to improve their creativity, discipline, and confidence.
Opportunities Even During a Pandemic
One of the most unique aspects of CVAP was its online format. Because the program was conducted virtually, aspiring voice artists from different regions—including those who could not normally attend workshops in major cities—were able to participate.
For Moises (voice artist), this opportunity was particularly meaningful. In the past, attending voice acting workshops had been difficult because of distance. The online training allowed him to finally access the learning experience he had always wanted.
A Journey That Builds a Family
Beyond skills and opportunities, CVAP created something even more powerful: a sense of family.
Participants supported each other through challenges, shared encouragement, and celebrated each other’s growth. Many described the environment as welcoming, inspiring, and empowering.
For Cheryl (voice artist), every session left her feeling blessed and empowered. She was finally able to share her voice and be heard while building meaningful friendships along the way.
A Milestone for Aspiring Voice Artists
The first batch of CVAP marked a milestone not only for the participants but also for the voice acting community in the Philippines. The program demonstrated that learning, creativity, and collaboration could thrive even in difficult circumstances.
Through the guidance of Pocholo De Leon Gonzalez and the support of the CreatiVoices Productions community, more than 80 voicemates discovered their potential and began their journey as certified voice artists.
As the pioneering class of 2020 concluded their four-week journey, one message became clear: the voice is more than just a tool—it is a powerful instrument for expression, inspiration, and transformation.
And for these voicemates, the journey has only just begun.
